A Level Entry Requirements - September 2026

In order to study A Levels, you will need a minimum of 6 GCSEs at grade 5 or above across a range of subjects including Maths and English or 5 GCSEs at grade 6 or above across a range of subjects including Maths and English.

Please note, if you wish to study 4 A Level courses, you need to have achieved Grade 8s and 9s in all GCSEs studied. (Further Mathematics requires a Grade 8).

In addition to the below, you need to meet the subject-specific entry requirements to enrol on the course.

Economics	5 in Maths and 6 in English
English Literature	4 in Maths, 6 in English Literature or 5 in English Language
English Language/Literature	4 in Maths and a combination of a Grade 5 and a Grade in 6 in English
Further Mathematics	8 in Maths and 5 in English
Geography	4 in Maths, 5 in English and 5 in Geography
History	4 in Maths, 5 in English and 5 in History
Mathematics	7 in Maths and 5 in English
Level 3 Science	5,5 in Combined Science or 5 in Triple Science
Physical Education	4 in Maths, 4 in English and 5 in PE *Needs to be actively involved in a sporting activity
Physics	7 in Maths, 5 in English and 7 in Science
Politics	4 in Maths, 5 in English and 5 in any Humanities subjects
Psychology	5 in Maths, English and Science
Sociology	4 in Maths, 5 in English and 5 in any Humanities subjects
Criminology (Level 3 Diploma)	4 in Maths and English
